Study of Energy Imported into ERCOT

These charts are part of some exploratory data analysis and data modeling we've been developing.

The analysis looks at energy flows into Texas during the February 2022 winter storm (not Uri).

As the ERCOT-wide weighted temperature proxy drops below 50°F, greater amounts of DC energy are imported from outside of the ERCOT territory (other ISOs and Mexico).

The data lead to some policy questions related to the independence of the Texas market for electricity.

The model includes details of activity at each interconnect site and generates further information on the impact to transmission system impacts within the State.

sample of early inputs into the ercot energy import modelS

This is an example of some of the preliminary modeling used to generate a weather proxies.

NOAA and Population data become interrelated in new, meaningfully defined geographic subsets of the Texas.
